His professional affiliations include the Director of Community Portals, Mission Markets (New York); Founding Board Member, Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (Oakland, CA); a Fellow at the Business Alliance for Local Living Economics (BALLE), Cutting Edge Capital and Post-Carbon Institute. He is one of the nation’s leading experts on community economics and the advantages of small-scale businesses in an era of globalization. Shuman has authored, coauthored or edited eight books and written nearly one hundred published articles for such periodicals as New York Times, Washington Post, and Weekly Standard.
