Jim Craig – Jim is widely known as the heart and soul of the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey team. The “Miracle on Ice” victory for the United States over the vaunted, seemingly unbeatable Soviet Union team is largely regarded as one of the most extraordinary sports victories of all time, and the team’s success is attributed to exceptional teamwork. Mike Eruzione – Mike served as the enthusiastic captain that led the 1980 United States Olympic Hockey Team to its Gold Medal victory at Lake Placid. The highlight of the games for Eruzione was his winning goal against the Soviet Union in the game that stunned the world. Walt Disney adapted the story of the “Miracle on Ice” into a feature length film, titled Miracle, which was released in February 2004. The film stars Kurt Russell as legendary Olympic head coach Herb Brooks and Hollywood up-and-comer Patrick O’Brien Demsey as Mike Eruzione.

Angela Ruggiero – Angela, one of the most prominent ice hockey players in the world and Member of the 2015 Hockey Hall of Fame, competed in four Olympics with the U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team, winning a gold medal in 1998, silver in 2002 and 2010, and bronze in 2006. During her storied and pioneering 16-year career with the U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team, she wore the USA jersey in more games than any other man or women in USA Hockey history, competing in 10 IIHF World Championships, earning the gold medal on four occasions. Ruggiero was once named the “top female player in the world” by The Hockey News one of the top 16 female athletes in the world by ESPN.

Nikki Stone – At the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Nikki Stone became America’s first-ever Olympic Champion in the sport of inverted aerials. What made this performance so unbelievable, was the fact that less than two years earlier, a chronic injury prevented her from standing, much less walking or skiing down a slope at almost 40 miles per hour. Her tenacity and refusal to step down from a challenge brought Nikki back to the top of the freestyle skiing podium. This top spot was far from foreign to Nikki, as throughout her career she earned 35 World Cup medals, eleven World Cup titles, four national titles, two yearlong Aerial World Cup titles, and a World Championship title.

Amy PurdyWinter Olympics – At 19, after experiencing flu-like symptoms, Amy was rushed to the hospital in a state of septic shock. En route, she experienced respiratory and multiple organ failure which caused her to lose circulation to her extremities. When she entered into the hospital she was given less than a 2% chance of survival, put on life support and placed into a coma. After multiple blood transfusions, and the removal of her ruptured spleen, doctors diagnosed Amy with Meningococcal Meningitis, a vaccine preventable bacterial infection. Due to the lack of circulation she had suffered doctors had to amputate her legs below the knee.

Chris Waddell – Chris always thought that the lessons he learned in sports would provide the foundation for later success. As a ski racer at Middlebury College in 1988, he had no idea how profoundly one moment could change and paradoxically enhance that conviction. On December 20th his ski popped off in the middle of a turn. He fell, broke two vertebrae, and damaged the spinal cord. Paralyzed from the waist down he learned and achieved more than he could have imagined. With 12 Paralympic medals, he became the most decorated male monoskier in history.

Winter OlympicsEmily Cook – Diversity aside, national champion and ex-gymnast Emily Cook, never let go of a dream to compete in the Olympics. Sidelined by two broken feet only days after making the 2002 Olympic Team, Cook watched her hometown Olympics from a wheel chair, and missed three World Cup seasons while rehabilitating. She persevered and returned to compete in the winter of 2005 reaching her Olympic dream in ’06 in Italy, the Vancouver Olympics in ’10 and again in Sochi in 2014.
