Garo Yepremian didn’t know football... the first game he ever saw, he played in-as a place-kicker for the Detroit Lions during the Detroit Lions vs. Baltimore Colts game in 1966. Was he scared? You bet! Was he nervous? And how! Did he even know how to put on his uniform? Not a chance! And yet, he overcame these and many other obstacles to go on to becoming the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s choice as “the kicker of the decade” from 1970-1980! He was on his way, and went on to a fifteen-year career with the N.F.L. playing for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. From 1966 through 1981 he missed only one season, 1969 when he proudly volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army. He was Garo Yepremian, he still is, but now he comes without the helmet and without the pads as a truly inspirational and patriotic speaker with an unbridled love for his country.
His illustrious career was highlighted by many record-breaking performances, most of which still stand. These include: kicking six field goals in one game (1966, Lions vs. Vikings), kicking a 37-yard field goal on Christmas Day 1971 to end the longest game in N.F.L history-the 1972 Miami Dolphins The Perfect Season), kicking five field goals to win the 1974 Pro Bowl game for the A.F.C. and being voted Most Valuable Player of the game (final-AFC 15, NFC 13), being voted to a second Pro Bowl in 1979, and in 1978-79 kicking 20 consecutive field goals without a miss.
Garo Yepremian scored 1070 points during his 15-year career and played in three Super Bowls (VI, VII, and VIII) in which he scored in all three for a total of 11 points.
In May of 1981 Mr. Yepremian was inducted into the Florida Hall of Fame. He devotes much of his time to local and national charitable organizations as well as charity golf tournaments. These include Breast Cancer research organizations, Children’s charities, Alzheimer’s research, and the Diabetes Foundation, to name a few.
Garo Yepremian has hosted his own two-hour radio talk show on WIOD-Miami. He has also hosted his own live T.V. half-hour talk show for N.B.C. as well as a weekly football prediction show for N.B.C. T.V. He has been and continues to be a guest on various television shows and has been seen in various commercials. His book, The Win-Win Book, is used as a tool to motivate athletes of all ages and businessmen, through the ideals of teamwork.
