As we near the end of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, we highlight powerful female sports stars who have shifted their careers from the soccer field to center stage.

The following three World Cup vets continue to inspire crowds with the leadership skills they acquired during their record-breaking years on the field!

Angela Hucles

Soccer Analyst, Sports Leadership Expert, Olympian

Angela Hucles began her playing career with the Boston Breakers in the inaugural seasons of both the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) in 2001 and again in 2008 with Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). With the national team, she started in 48 of her 109 career appearances for the USWNT and is currently ranked 24th on the all-time U.S. appearances list. She was a member of two Olympic-gold winning teams (2004, 2008) and finished third in two World Cups (2003, 2007).

Hucles played at the University of Virginia from 1996-1999. While at Virginia, she was a first team All-ACC Selection and a 4 time Mid- Atlantic Star. Hucles ended her career at Virginia as the all-time leader in goals with 59 and also the all-time leader in points with 138. She currently holds the record at the University of Virginia for most game- winning goals with 19. She was listed as a finalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy in 1999. Read More…

Christie Rampone

Whether In The world Of Soccer Or Business, Leadership Is Simple

Christie Rampone is the longest serving Captain of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (2008 – 2015). Rampone is the first four-time Olympian in the history of the squad. She is the only member of the squad to be part of two Women’s World Cup Championship teams (1999, 2015). She is recognized as the best defender in the world of women’s soccer.

With more than 18 years of experience under her belt, she defined herself as the leader of the United States Women’s National Team, both on and off the field. Christie is the ninth player in the Women’s National Soccer Team’s history to be named the team captain, taking the reigns in 2008. The numbers don’t lie. Her leadership paid dividends as she guided her team to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Championship and to three Olympic Gold Medals in 2004, 2008 and 2012. Heather Mitts

Former USWNT Defender, 3x Olympic Gold Medalist

As a studio analyst for the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ on FOX, former U.S. Women’s National Team star defender and three-time Olympic Gold medalist Heather Mitts brings impressive on- and off-the-field credentials to the network’s coverage of the world’s biggest women’s soccer competition. Mitts served as a studio analyst for December’s 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup™ draw, the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup and various women’s international friendlies.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mitts enjoyed considerable success for both club and country. She earned her first cap for the U.S. Women’s National Team at the age of 21 and went on to play 137 times for the United States, good for 18th on the USA’s all-time caps list and sixth-best for a defender. She started 104 of her 137 games. She is one of just three women’s soccer players to win three Olympic gold medals, as a member of the 2004, 2008 and 2012 teams. Read More…
