Just three years ago, Stephanie Decker captured the attention of our nation after saving the lives of her children — rendering her an amputee. When her story broke, she became one of the most celebrated mom’s in America.
Her road to recovery took her life in a new direction. Now having first hand experience with the struggles many amputees face, she started raising awareness with hopes to change things for the better. Recently, she had the pleasure of sharing a few moments with Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi at the “Points of Light Conference.
Points of Light’s Conference is the largest convening of volunteer, national service and civic leaders in the world. Each year, thousands of people who really care about the future of volunteer service convene in one place – to learn from, share with and get inspired by one another – to work together to increase the number of volunteers in the world and the impact of the work they do.
Stephanie was positively impacted by the Bush Family after a surprise visit from President George H.W. Bush and First Lady. Decker stated on Facebook, “What an honor today that President Bush and First Lady joined for a surprise visit at the Points of Light Conference. I am certainly looking forward to speaking.” She later went on to say, “Thank you Neil Bush for taking the time to listen to the issues at hand for amputees.”
