Adora Svitak began delivering writing workshops and motivational talks to schools around the nation at 7, when she published her first book, Flying Fingers. Later, she began speaking at education conferences to promote student voice in education reform. She has received the National Education Association Foundation’s award for Outstanding Service to Public Education and spoken at venues including the National Press Club, the United Nations Economic and Social Council’s Youth Forum, and TED.
Her talk “What Adults Can Learn From Kids” has been viewed on TED by over 5 million people and translated into more than 50 languages. Adora has written and edited for several organizations (UC Berkeley’s Social Science Matrix, Berkeley Political Review, Women’s Media Center, and TED’s education division).
In 2018, Adora Svitak graduated with a major in Development Studies and minors in South Asian Studies and Creative Writing from UC Berkeley. She currently works at the Wikimedia Foundation.
