“In terms of the Sony situation, I think beyond the actual hacking, what was most compelling to me was how it demonstrated people’s behavior when they thought their words or actions wouldn’t be seen by others. That’s a big-picture side of all this digital hacking — we need to consider how our world will look when all of our words, actions, and intentions will be visible to others. Literally. Augmented and virtual reality are examples of a new kind of lens through which we’ll see the world.”
“[In virtual reality] You put a pair of glasses over your eyes, and you can see when looking at someone, if they’ve mentioned you in an email and what they said. I believe this is actually an opportunity to move away from negative behavior like gossiping, etc., through something I call “Accountability Based Influence” (ABI) in my book, Hacking H(app)iness. While it’s going to be a huge cultural shift to deal with, it will also help us eradicate some of the negative tendencies our digital and social media lives have wrought.”
