Biography

Boomer Esiason served as lead studio analyst on CBS Sports’ The NFL Today from 2002-2024 and currently serves as co-host of WFAN Radio’s weekday morning show for over 16 years. New York City’s top-rated Boomer and Gio (co-hosted Gregg Giannotti) is also simulcasted nationally on the CBS Sports Network.

Esiason contributes daily commentary to Audacy’s “CBS Sports Minute”, co-hosts the weekly national show on Audacy’s platforms Kickoff with Boomer Esiason and Mike Valenti”, and is a weekly guest during the NFL season on WEEI-FM in Boston. He has co-hosted Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials since 2012. In 2019, Esiason became the host of new syndicated interview show Game Time with Boomer Esiason, seen nationwide in 220 television markets across the country.

Upon retiring from the NFL following the 1997 season, Esiason headed straight to the broadcast booth making his debut as a commentator for ABC’s Monday Night Football for two years. He called games for Westwood One Radio Sports’ Monday Night Football broadcasts for 19 seasons, teaming with Marv Albert and Kevin Harlan for eight years each. Esiason had been part of a Super Bowl-record 19 consecutive broadcasts (SB XXXIV in 2000 to SBII in 2018).

He served as an analyst on Inside The NFL on Showtime for five seasons. Esiason was a weekly contributor for Bleacher Report’s Behind the Mic and Sport Illustrated’s SI.com. He also hosted The Boomer Esiason Show on Madison Square Garden Network for eight years and during the 2001 season, served as an analyst on Fox Sports Net’s NFL This Morning.

Before gaining his stellar reputation on the air, the 14-year NFL veteran played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award 1988 and led the Cincinnati Bengals to Super Bowl XXIII (1989). Sporting News and Football Digest also named Esiason the NFL Player of the Year that same season.

The University of Maryland product was selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft and became one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history. He ranks in the Top-25 all-time in NFL passing yards with 37,920 (1st for left-handed quarterbacks), Top-30 in completions with 2,969 (1st for left-handed quarterbacks) and Top-25 all-time with 247 touchdown passes (1st for left-handed quarterbacks).

Esiason’s accomplishments stretch far beyond football. After his son Gunnar was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, Esiason created the Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) in 1993 to fund research to find a cure for the deadly disease with the mission to provide a higher quality of life for people with cystic fibrosis. In addition, BEF provides education, awareness and scholarships for people with the disease. To date, BEF has raised over $230 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.

In 2023, Esiason was inducted into the Cincinnati Bengals Ring of Honor. The NFL honored him with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 1995 for his excellence on the football field as well as his charitable work through his Foundation.

The East Islip, NY-native currently serves as a spokesman for FanDuel, Tri-State Ford Dealers, GEICO, ProVEDA and Collectors’ Showcase of America (CSA). He was the former spokesperson for Investors Bank, FedEx, Coca-Cola, STS Tire Centers, Life & Health Insurance Foundation for Education’s “Life Insurance Awareness Month” and Johnsonville Sausage.

Along with his various off-the-field activities, has also authored two novels, “A Boy Named Boomer” and “Toss”.

Esiason is a co-owner and contributor to The Experts Network (TXN), an interactive digital sports network consisting of sports analysis along with Phil Simms, Cris Collinsworth, Howie Long, Nick Faldo and Cal Ripken, Jr. Launched in April 2011, TXN specializes in the development of digital and original programming, repurposed content and high-end special events.
