With Father’s Day approaching, we wanted to take the time to highlight Dick Hoyt and Rick Hoyt — a father and son duo who are a true inspiration.
Although Rick Hoyt uses a wheelchair, this has never stopped him from living a full and amazing life. He, along with his keynote speaking dad, Dick Hoyt, have formed “Team Hoyt” and they have competed around the world doing marathons and triathlons. Together, the Hoyt’s have participated in over 1,100 athletic events in the last 35 years!
Dick is a retired Lt. Colonel who served in the military for 35 years. His son, Rick, was born as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy and as a non-speaking person. But despite these challenges, Rick has always had a strong mind and spirit. His family supported his desire for independence and inclusion in the community, sports, education and the workplace — and all of this helped Rick graduate from Boston University with a degree in Special Education.
Currently, Dick is a professional speaker and goes around the country to educate the public on disability awareness. He is also promotes the Team Hoyt motto that him and Rick use, “Yes You Can!”
In his keynote presentations, Dick motivates audiences by sharing his lifelong commitment to changing attitudes of others on the world of disabilities.
