Climbing Over Mountains With Stacy Allison

Posted by DaisyMae VanValkenburgh

What would you tell a crowd if you were the first American woman to climb Mt. Everest?

As a woman of courage, strength and challenge, Stacy Allison connects the dots between her endeavors and our daily life. At only 21 years old, Stacy decided that she wanted to start climbing major mountains. Literally, mountains. Within a year of her decision she scaled Alaska’s Mt. McKinley. She was also part of the first successful women’s ascent of Ama Dablam. Ama Dablam is the 22,495 foot peak known as Nepal’s Matterhorn.

Stacy had met any challenge that came her way with success, however, Mt. Everest taught her a few lessons. After not being able to summit her first Mt. Everest expedition, Stacy reflected on what that actually meant to her.

“The worst storm in forty years trapped us in a snow cave at 23,500 feet for five days. Turning back can be the most important yet difficult decision of all, particularly when there is so much pressure to succeed.” Stacy adds, “If you see yourself as trying to beat the mountain, eventually the mountain will win. You don’t conquer mountains, you cooperate with them.”

Motivational Speaker, Stacy

Motivational speaker, Stacy takes this reflection throughout life and urges audience members to as well. With the Northwest American Everest Expedition and 29 days on the mountain, she became the first American woman to reach the summit of Mt. Everest.

With this success on her back, she moved on to complete other challenges she had for herself. She continued to climb other mountains including leading a K2 expedition, the second highest mountain in the world, and one of the most difficult peaks to reach.

In addition to many of her monumental mountain climbs, she also owns and operates Stacy Alison General Contracting, where she and her team preserve the charm and uniqueness of classic old homes. She also chairs the American Lung Association of Pacific Mountain Region’s fundraiser, Climb for Clean Air.

Stacy is a seasoned mountain climber and activist, but also an author. Her first book, “Beyond The Limits: A Woman’s Triumph on Everest,” is an adventure story of her trials and tribulations. Her second book, “Many Mountains to Climb; Reflections on Competence, Courage and Commitment,” is an anecdotal account of climbing challenges applied to help you plan your way to professional and personal success.

Above everything else Stacy wants to motivate people to reach their goals and push past any obstacles that might be in their way. She urges the truth that we are all players on each other’s team. We need to all work together in order to achieve our own personal goals.
