Today we are celebrating World Health Day! This campaign was created by the World Health Organization, and every year they focus on a specific health topic. The 2017 campaign theme is depression.
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, and can affect anyone at any age. Unfortunately, out of the 16 million people who have it, only a third of them seek help. However, this mental illness is preventable and can be treated. By promoting a better understanding of what depression is and how it can be treated, the World Health Organization believes they can reduce the stigma associated with this mental illness, and lead to more people seeking help.
Scientist, researcher and professional speaker, Dr. Marc Milstein is an expert in two areas that prevent depression — happiness and wellness. Dr. Marc earned both his Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, and Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from UCLA. Following this, he went on to conduct research on topics like genetics, cancer biology, neuroscience, and more.
Dr. Marc currently has two speaking presentations on depression called Depression: Brain Chemistry and the Latest Insights and New Treatments for Depression. He also discusses his cutting-edge research on happiness in a way that is approachable for all audiences. As a result, he empowers them to apply these vital findings to their work and daily lives.
