Keynote Speaker Feature: Are you ready for 2013? by Troy Hazard

Posted by Alexis Washington

Forgive me if I start this article by saying that I am writing it looking over the reef on the Coral Coast of Fiji … So now that you all hate me, let me work on how I can kick-start your 2013 so you might think I’m really not a bad guy after all!

You see, this is my annual retreat, a week away with my family where we spend the time relaxing on the beach, reading, walking, but the most important activity is that it is our time to stop and build our personal plans for the year.

Each year, my wife Dominique and I find a place to ‘regroup’ from the year that was, and plan the year that is about to be. But this is not about BUSINESS planning. This is about first working out what we want out of life, and then working out how our business is going to pay for that.

So is this goal setting? Hmm not really. A goal is something you nominate, work for, achieve and move on. Building your personal plan is more about working out what you really want your life to represent, as a whole, and then setting about working out the goals, strategies and tactics to implement to help you execute that plan.

By way of example, one of the recurring things on my annual plan is that I only want to work 3 days a week, I want to work from home, and I want to spend at last 6 weeks a year doing just this, being what I want to be, when I want to be, how I want to be… because I can!

Without truly understanding what that represents to me in my life, I can’t truly understand how to make my business help me execute that plan, because I am not clear on my purpose.

In 2013, don’t start with a business plan, start with a personal plan, and then match your business to suit.

To find out more about this process, call the guys at Eagles Talent to connect us, and I am more than happy to spend some time on the phone with you to step you through how you and your teams can have a stellar 2013, with personal purpose!
