Winning 5 Olympic medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics was only the beginning for Nastia Liukin. As the 28.7 million Americans who watched the Games know, Liukin parlayed her extraordinary athletic prowess into 5 Olympic medals including a Gold in all-around gymnastics, one of only three U.S. women ever to do so. Upon her return from Beijing, Nastia has become America’s sweetheart, gracing covers of US magazine, WWD Beauty Biz, the front of the iconic Wheaties cereal box, and making several television appearances on TV programs including the hit show Gossip Girl, NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno, HBO’s Costas NOW, and the Oprah Winfrey Show.
MSNBC named Nastia the 2nd most marketable athlete around the same time that she appeared in Glamour Magazine as one of “The 11 greatest bodies on Earth.” By the years’ end, Nastia had received such honors as the Women’s Sports Foundation’s “Individual Sportswoman of the Year” and the United States Sports Academy’s “Female Athlete of the Year.” Nastia was also named “Best Female Athlete” at the 2009 ESPY Awards.
She has also made the transition from balance beam to brand spokesperson. To transcend her life beyond the gym, Nastia is focused on a brand positioning centered around promoting healthy living for young women. Her Supergirl clothing line promotes self-esteem in tweens and her Subway commercials promoting healthy eating habits nationwide. Her message is about fighting teen obesity, getting kids active, and giving kids the opportunity to have fun and be healthy.
