Shannon Huffman Polson is the author of The Grit Factor: Courage, Resilience and Leadership in the Most Male Dominated Organization in the World (Harvard Business Review Press), and the founder of The Grit Institute, a leadership institute committed to whole leader development and a focus on grit and resilience.
As one of the first women to fly the Apache helicopter in the U.S. Army, leading line units on three continents, Polson combines her passion and firsthand experience in and study of leadership and grit to deliver world-class keynotes and training to companies and organizations on leadership and grit.
After serving for a decade in the armed services, Polson earned her MBA at the Tuck School at Dartmouth. She went on to lead outstanding teams in the corporate world at Guidant Corporation (later Boston Scientific) and Microsoft Corporation. Polson has also earned an MFA. Her first book is North of Hope: A Daughter’s Arctic Journey.
Polson’s signature presentation, Leading from Any Seat, inspires leaders at all levels with stories from her eight years in uniform as one of the first women to fly the Apache helicopter and leadership lessons in connection, communication and ownership. Guaranteed to keep your organization on the edges of their seats and inspire them to excellence.
In January 2016, Polson began interviewing outstanding women across the generations of military experience and leadership. In this presentation she brings the key lessons from those interviews (still ongoing) for your organization to learn from and be inspired to reach their own dreams and potential.
Storytelling is a critical leadership skill, and not one most of us have learned. Polson brings outstanding examples and frameworks to your organization to teach leaders how to effectively use story to inspire and motivate employees and clients.
