Tarek El Moussa is the host of the hit tv show Flip or Flop on HGTV, currently in its eighth season with over 19 million viewers and ranked #1 cable show in its time slot. On top of that, Tarek is in production for his second TV show on HGTV, Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa. In addition to successfully flipping close to 500 properties over the years, Tarek is a successful Entrepreneur, Real Estate Expert and Investor with a portfolio of close to 100 income producing properties, a wholesale real estate company, a home flipping educational seminar company, a real estate sales team and a production company.
However, not so many years ago, Tarek’s life was very different. At the height of the housing boom, Tarek was selling multi-million-dollar mansions like hotcakes – but when the housing bubble burst, Tarek went broke and was forced to sell his million dollar home to move into a one bedroom apartment with a roommate. During this time period of barely being able to afford his utility bills, Tarek devised a plan to rebuild his wealth. He then carved out a new niche for himself in the world of real estate: flipping distressed properties. Before even completing his very first flip, he was able to land himself what is now the hit TV show Flip or Flop on HGTV.
With all of Tarek’s success, he has had just as many challenges and struggles. Tarek has battled two different types of cancers, went completely broke, and went through a very public divorce. Not only has he lost what he describes as his “everything” but he has also experienced times of having everything, and feeling completely empty.
As Tarek often says, “Life is just a series of ups and downs,” and through his diverse life experiences and career, Tarek has developed a unique perspective
and a message that he loves sharing: People are not too different than houses. No matter how shitty of a situation a house is in, no matter how beaten up it is, or how torn down it may be- you can still completely transform it into something beautiful and amazing again. Sometimes we all need a remodel. Tarek is obsessed with helping others redesign their life, create a new foundation, and finally… build the life they’ve always wanted.
