International Association of Speakers Bureaus (IASB) Conference 2011 Recap

Posted by Sheldon Senek

Eagles Talent Speakers Bureau recently attended the IASB (International Association of Speakers Bureau) conference in San Diego. This is an opportunity for speakers bureaus in the U.S. and abroad to meet once a year to network, discuss trends, watch keynote speakers (business, social media, motivational, etc.) and work together to better our industry–thus, help organizations more through speakers.

Esther Eagles, President of Eagles Talent Speakers Bureau on a panel at IASB 2011

Here’s a recap of our conference:

The conference opened with our very own President of Eagles Talent, Esther Eagles, who is a founding member of the IASB, sitting on a panel discussing our association’s Past, Present and Future. It’s amazing to think how far we’ve come: from ledger books, to fax machines–to the digital age of mobile devices and social media.

We next heard from a few Business Keynote and Motivational speakers:

John Sileo
John’s identity was used to commit serious crimes–now he speaks on ways to keep your identity from being stolen. There’s nothing more important in this age of posting videos and doing e-commerce than keeping your identity safe. He provided humor and hit home the seriousness of how easy it is to have your identity taken.

John Izzo
Talk about being inspired–John Izzo’s really got the group thinking when it comes to learning how to step up and be a leader. John is a speaker we LOVE working with, not only is his message great, but he is such a passionate person. (Also, John has a book coming out towards the end of 2011, so keep an eye out for that!)

Linda Edgecombe
How do you boost, re-energize and re-engage in crazy times? Linda gave us a lot to think about as well as made us laugh. I have to say that I love the title of one of her presentations: ‘Shift of Get Off the Pot, Simple Truths About Getting a Life.

David Goldsmith
David was one of the more talked about speakers–his presentation focused on structuring a better business model. He’s a person who’s not shy about making bold statements. For companies who know that their strategy isn’t working–and need an change, he’s a perfect fit.

Keith Ferrazzi
Keith was one of the highlights for the conference. If you want to understand relationships, and how to build them better, Keith is the one! What I truly enjoy is that he focuses on making relationships by helping someone else (this is a breath of fresh air since we live in such a ‘what’s in it for me’ world). I read Keith’s book ‘Who’s Got Your Back‘ and did a podcast interview with him over a year ago (and he is everything that people praise him for AND more in person!).

George Hedley
George built his company from Zero to $50 million in only 7 years. George owns Hardhat Presentations and is a business speaker as well as a bestselling author of ‘Get Your Business to Work!‘ George had all of us laughing–but drove home the point of being leaders.

Rory Vaden
Have you ever come to a set of stairs and where there’s an escalator–and thought which one should I take? Rory challenges us all to take the stairs. It’s a metaphor for life, right? If you want to achieve success, and take action, taking the stairs is the only option.

We then broke out into some focused session with some experts who provided awesome insight on getting the most out of our business.

Seth Mattison
You’re getting ready to hire a younger person in the workforce…chances are they’re a Millennial (Gen Y)–are you ready for them? Are they ready for you? Seth’s presentation was absolutely perfect for bridging the gap. If you need help in bringing your generational workforce together, then Seth is the best generation speaker there is.

Colleen Francis
Our business world is shifting and how we sell is as well. Colleen focuses on how to do engage selling. After all, at least in our industry, we’re not selling Nike products–we’re actually helping organizations achieve goals (whether that’s helping them grow, or increase membership, ect.).

Gil Eagles (Co-Founder) and Sheldon Senek (EVP) of Eagles Talent Speakers Bureau

We’re looking forward to next year’s IASB Conference in Dallas!
